Free guided tours of Parliament are available to constituents. Unfortunately, Alec can only sponsor tours for permanent residents of the constituency. Tours are given to constituents free of charge, and must NOT be sold for profit to third parties.

A full tour takes approximately 75 minutes and includes –

  • Westminster Hall, the ancient hall at the heart of the Palace where Parliament first sat and where many historic events have taken place
  • The House of Commons, including the Speaker’s Chair and the famous green benches and the ‘lobbies’ where MPs actually vote
  • The House of Lords, including the Royal Throne
  • The Queen’s Robing Room, Royal Gallery and many other fascinating parts of the Palace of Westminster

A partial tour takes place when the Chambers are in use (i.e. a debate is underway). This will include all of the above except the Commons Chamber and the Lords Chamber.

Tours can only be provided during the week and when the House is sitting. Please see below for the schedule of the House.

School Visits/Large Groups:

Alec welcomes schools and groups from the constituency to visit Westminster for a guided tour. Repeated tours from the same school/group are welcome. It would be ideal for schools and groups to arrive at Westminster in the morning and be 10-30 in number. The best day to take a school/group tour is a Tuesday when Parliament is sitting (October to July). Alec will meet with the school/group delegates and students and provide a personal tour (as described above) highlighting the history of the Palace, the work of an MP, and will answer any questions raised.

Tours need to be booked months in advance.

Please contact us to enquire about a visit to Westminster. To request a tour please e-mail Alec’s office with a firm idea of the number of people who will be in your party and the date you would like to visit. Please note that while all will be done to accommodate your request, high demand for these complimentary tours may mean that your first choice of date and time may not be available.
