About Alec
Alec was elected as the Member of Parliament for Elmet & Rothwell in May 2010 with a majority of 4521 votes. Living in the heart of the constituency allows Alec to stay in touch with the issues that really matter to his constituents. Following six years as a Leeds City Councillor for the Harewood Ward, becoming a Member of Parliament for his home constituency is a huge honour for Alec.
Alec’s Experience
Alec was born in 1976 and was educated at Saint George’s Church of England Comprehensive, Gravesend. Alec studied Mechanical Engineering at Brunel University where he graduated with honours in 1998. He has since then established a career in project management and moved to Micklefield in 1999 to take up a job with the University of Leeds.
With over a decade’s experience of campaigning in the constituency, Alec knows not only what issues matter to local people, but has come to know nearly every road, avenue and cul-de-sac in the constituency by name. It is Alec’s promise to put the interests of his constituents before those of his own.
In Parliament
Alec takes a keen interest in Foreign Affairs, Transport, Energy and Higher Education. Following his election as a Leeds MP, Alec was delighted to take up responsibility for Leeds’ Transport vision for the future as part of the Team of Leeds MPs working with the Leeds Chamber of Commerce.
In October 2010, the Prime Minister approved Alec's appointment as Parliamentary Private Secretary to Transport Minister, the Rt. Hon Theresa Villiers.
